Background

Therapeutic horseback riding exploits the advantages intrinsic in the fact that the movements of horses are parallel to human movements.

The Regional Therapeutic Horseback Riding Ranch project focuses on serving children-at-risk, children with developmental delays and/or special needs, and children/families who suffer from post traumatic stress due to terrorism.

Riding as therapy improves balance, coordination and flexibility in the rider. The therapy also improves the behavioral patterns of the rider, builds self-esteem and self-confidence and develops a greater sense of sensitivity for others and for surroundings.

The Ranch currently has 10 horses and other farm animals such as sheep, goats and chickens.

The Ranch is conveniently located in Barkan and has successfully been operating for a year and a half. The Ranch is scheduled to move to a new permanent location in the Barkan Industrial Area at the end of 2004.

Our Goals:

1. Therapeutic riding for the children and families
2. Respect and appreciation of animals.
3. Learning to care for animals and understanding their life cycle and care.
4. Social activities where children and families can inter-react.
