Traveling carnival visits children in Shomron community

Shootings on the roads. Terrorists infiltrating communities. Death. Poverty. These are some of the day-to-day realities faced by the families living in the 33 communities of the Shomron Regional Council.

Because of this, it is becoming more difficult for families to find any relief in the form of child-centered recreation. Either they can not get to activities because of fear of traveling on the roads or they can not afford to pay for entertainment for the entire family.

We have already helped to establish a traveling carnival to raise the spirits of the families in our communities. The carnival brings giant inflatable amusement rides and fun foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, snow-cones and popcorn to hundreds of children in the Shomron each day.

During the year and in particular during the summer months, the traveling carnival visits each of our communities at least two times. . Staffed almost entirely by volunteers, as well as by local youth employed for the day, the carnival provides the activities for free, and the food at a drastically reduced cost (for example, burgers for 25 cents each!). The carnival has also traveled to other communities in YESHA.

We plan to help establish two more traveling carnivals. By having a carnival in each region of the Shomron (north, central and eastern), we can help provide more family fun days per summer in each community. At the same time, we can limit time and expenses on travel, and meet the high demand of other Shomron communities who would like us to assist in bringing the carnival to their families.
